Rikkyo University

Transforming 'information consumption' into 'user-driven engagement.' Our support in global PWA development.

Rikkyo University is committed to creating an inclusive campus environment where students from diverse cultural backgrounds around the world come together to learn alongside Japanese students. Their ambitious goal is to increase the number of international students to 2,000 by the 2024 academic year. In pursuit of this objective and to attract applicants from a wide range of countries and regions, they considered the development of a recruitment website. TAM's strategy was based on thorough research, where we discovered valuable user insights that shaped the website's design concept. We brought this concept to life using the capabilities of Progressive Web App (PWA) technology, overseeing all project aspects, including server selection and configuring the technical infrastructure.

Fostering user connections with a 'Learning App' approach.

When we conducted research among international students, it became evident that the 'application' process is a multifaceted journey. It involves various steps such as online research, utilizing study-abroad support services, consulting with teachers and family, and considering one's own value in terms of future employment in Japan or upon returning home. This extended period from preparation to application highlighted the importance of building and nurturing relationships and encouraging users to envision their future beyond enrollment. In response, TAM reimagined the development of the recruitment site with the goal of nurturing candidates to envision their future and guiding them through the entire journey, from initial consideration to successful application. We deliberated on how to design the user relationship leading up to the application and crafted the concept of 'My Study Abroad Learning App.'"

Beyond 'reading' and 'applying':
crafting a user-centric application journey

To turn our vision into reality, it was essential to shift from a simple information browsing experience to a 'user's own journey,' emphasizing the idea of 'using' the platform actively. The site's overall structure was thoughtfully designed to cater to each phase of a student's study-abroad preparation, providing relevant information at three distinct stages. We introduced features like a progress meter UI and incentives, such as unlocking special content upon completion, creating an engaging learning-app-like experience, all powered by PWA.
For the server, we opted for Shifter, renowned for its high-speed performance worldwide and robust security measures. We ensured that WordPress allowed for easy site updates, even for users without advanced web skills. By cultivating a stress-free environment for both administrators and users, we transformed the discrete 'recruitment' and 'application' touchpoints into active, integrated experiences within a broader communication context
