Voice User Interface (Voice UI), which allows devices and applications to be controlled through voice and conversation, is becoming indispensable for delivering exceptional user experiences not only on websites but also across all digital devices. TAM has initiated in-house projects, including prototype development and Proof of Concept (PoC) with real targets, with the aim of accumulating knowledge and expertise in the field of Voice UI.
Excellent Voice UI requires a dual focus on creativity and technology.
While Voice UI is still in its early stages in Japan, its integration into daily life is inevitable, driven by the widespread adoption of smart speakers, Voice UI-enabled appliances, and the rapid advancement of AI. However, the current user experience with smart speakers highlights usability issues and a scarcity of genuinely useful skills. To address these fundamental challenges, we believe it's essential not only to advance Japanese-language AI but also to plan skills and design appropriate scenarios.
Not just skill development,
but also effective measurement and improvement
At TAM, our primary focus is addressing societal challenges through our in-house Voice UI projects.. In collaboration with Tenma Market, a renowned historic market near our Osaka office, we developed an Alexa skill that provides support in both Japanese and English, ensuring seamless shopping experiences even in complex indoor environments. Over a period of approximately three months, we conducted a Proof of Concept (PoC) to measure various metrics, including intent count and session count, enabling us to identify areas for improvement in our next steps.
Additionally, we've taken on initiatives like the 'R80 Project,' targeting seniors who are less connected to digital devices. We continue to share the results of these endeavors with the world, making valuable contributions to the evolution of Voice UI technology.
